Every front entry is a little different, so there isn't one price for a privacy gate. What you'll pay depends on a handful of things you can see from the walkway, plus a few that only show up when someone measures. Knowing them helps you compare quotes and get a more accurate estimate the first time.
What changes the price
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Opening size | A wider or taller opening needs a bigger gate. Very wide openings may need a double gate. |
| Opening shape | Arches and other shaped openings take more measuring and fabrication than a straight rectangle. |
| Design | Simple bars are quicker to build than slats, patterns or decorative ironwork. |
| Privacy level | More coverage (tighter slats, added panels) means more material in the gate. |
| Hardware | Locks, keypads, smart locks and self-closing hinges each add parts and labor. |
| Mounting | How the gate attaches to your walls or columns, and what's behind the stucco, affects installation. |
| Installation conditions | Access, existing fixtures and uneven floors or thresholds can change the install. |
The biggest swings usually come from size, shape and design. Two homes on the same street can get very different numbers if one has a straight recessed entry and the other has a wide arch.
What a photo estimate can and can't tell
Photos are enough to see the opening's shape, the style of the home and roughly how big the entry is. That's why we start with a photo-based estimate: you don't need to measure anything or book a visit to get a sense of the cost.
What photos can't show is the exact measurement, whether the opening is square, and how the gate will anchor into the wall. Those are confirmed when we measure, and the final price is confirmed then.
Photos that make an estimate accurate
Five photos to send
- Straight on, from the walkway, showing the whole opening
- From the left and from the right
- The walls or columns where the gate would mount
- The top of the opening, especially for arches
- A wider shot of the front of the house, so the design can match
If you have a rough width, add it. A guess is fine.
Questions to ask any gate company
Before you say yes
- Is the price confirmed after measuring, and what happens if the measurements change it?
- Which hardware is included, and which is extra?
- How will the gate attach to my walls?
- What's the expected timeline for fabrication and installation?
- Can you give me drawings or details for my HOA application?
If your neighborhood has an HOA, check its rules before you order. Our guide to HOA approval for front entry gates in Arizona covers what to send.
Can I get an estimate without a visit?
Yes. Send photos of your entry and we'll give you a photo-based estimate. The final price is confirmed after measuring.
Does a more private gate cost more?
Usually, because tighter slats or added panels use more material. How much depends on the size of the opening.
Do I need exact measurements?
No. A rough width helps, but we measure before anything is built.
